Will of Jane KNIBBS, 1702-1776
(nee Scarsborough)


This is the last will and testament

of me Jane Knibbs of Deddington in
the county of Oxford widow being infirm but of sound and perfect mind
memory and understanding praised be God. All that my messuage cottage
or tenement in the New Street in Deddington aforesaid in the
possession of Thomas Fennimore with its appurts I give devise and
bequeath to my daughter Mary wife of the said Thomas Fennimore her
heirs and assigns forever Subject to the payment of fifteen pounds and
fifteen shillings to the Reverend John Henchman within six months next
after my decease but in case my said daughter Mary shall neglect or
refuse to pay to the said John Henchman his executors or
administrators the said fifteen pounds and fifteen shillings within
the time aforesaid Then and in such case I give devise and bequeath my
messuage cottage or tenement with the appurts to the said John
Henchman his heirs and assigns forever subject to the payment of
fifteen pounds and fifteen shillings to my said daughter Mary within
six month next after the said John Henchman shall be in the actual
profession of the said premises I give to may daughter Sarah my best
feather bed. All the rest of my household goods and S--- I give to my
said daughter Mary her executors and administrators. All my ready
money debts to me owing and other my personal estate not before
disposed of subject to my debts and funeral expenses I give to the
said John Henchman and the said Mary Fennimore their executors and
administrators equally share and share alike and I do hereby appoint
the said John Henchman the sole executors of this my will hereby
revoking all former wills. I declare this to be my last. In witness
whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this fifteenth day of
February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and
seventy five Jane Knibbs her mark. Signed sealed published and
declared by the said Jane Knibbs as and for her last will and
testament in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as
witnesses therefore in her presence and at her request and in the

This will was proved at Oxford on the twentieth day of January in the
year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy six before the
Reverend Lionel Lampet Clerk Master of Arts surrogate of the
Worshipful Thomas Bever Doctor of Law Official Principal of the
Reverend the Archdeacon of the Archdeaconry of Oxford lawfully
constituted by the Oath of the Reverend John Henchman Clerk the sole
executor therein named to whom administration was granted being first
sworn duly to administer.
